While visiting the Denver, Colorado area I was able to take in a concert at the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Red Rocks is an open-air amphitheater built into the red sedimentary sandstone bedrock near Morrison, Colorado. It sits at an elevation of 6,450 feet with amazing views of the city of Denver only 10 miles. The stage is framed by a large, tilted, disc-shaped rock behind and huge vertical rocks angled outwards with several large outcrops from the left and right of the stage. The amphitheater seats over 9,500 people on long terraced steps that ascend the theater’s deep stadium gallery.
The terraced steps are very wide leaving plenty of room for you to sit an allow people to walk behind you without disturbing your enjoyment. As the steps can be a hard surface to sit on for a long concert, it is recommended to bring a blanket or stadium pad to sit on. Concerts and special events are offered throughout the year, even some during the winter months. Red Rocks is not only an amphitheater but it is also an 868-acre mountain park owned and maintained by the city of Denver as part of the Denver Mountain Parks system. The park is known by locals for exercising on the amphitheater steps and the hiking and biking trails.
